Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop - Festive Celebrations

Welcome to the 16th Edition of the
Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop! You'll see projects from stampers from around the world--I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This month our theme is Festive Celebrations!!! I chose to work with the Merry Patterns stamp set, which you can't get anymore, but hopefully you earned it for free in September or October...and this will be another idea you can use!  I chose to make a simple card, it reminds me of a pile of presents in plain brown wrapping paper.

The stamping on this card is very simple, the outline images were stamped with an Early Espresso ink pad, and the fill-in images were stamped with a Soft Suede ink pad. The base card is Crumb Cake card stock, and for the upper layer, the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder (with the Big Shot) was used on Soft Suede card stock. The reindeer is stamped on Very Vanilla card stock that was cut out with the Lots of Labels Framelits (again, using the Big Shot).

Then, I added some subtle bling using some Basic Pearls that I colored with a Bronze Sharpie before applying to the card. I also added the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape, layering one washi over the other. I really like the muted, but shiny, look of the metallics with these neutral colors.

Stampin' Supplies: Merry Patterns stamp set, Soft Suede card stock & ink, Early Espresso ink, Very Vanilla card stock, Crumb Cake card stock, Lots of Labels Framelits (used with Big Shot), Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape, Basic Pearls (colored with Sharpie), Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder (also used with Big Shot), Stampin' Dimensionals, Stampin' Trimmer, SNAIL Adhesive.

Festive Phrases Elf - Step It Up Blog Hop

Welcome to the December 2017 Edition of the We Create Bloggers Step It Up Blog Hop! The theme is to inspire stampers with a basic design, and at least one alternate "stepped up" version of that same design. My projects this month feature the ELF from the Festive Phrases stamp set (available in clear-mount & wood-mount).

I actually started this month's card with the Stepped Up version, then scaled it back. I think the elf from the Festive Phrases stamp set pairs so well with the diagonal plaid from the Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper. And I just noticed that the Festive Phrases Wood-Mount Stamp Set is 20% OFF on our Year-End Sale that started this morning...so go grab yours in my Online Store NOW!

Below is a little closeup of the paper piecing on the elf. I stamped him once on Garden Green Card Stock--and that layer is barely larger than the image, so I made sure to use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to get the placement just right. Then I stamped the sign part of the image onto Real Red Card Stock, and I cut out only the sign from that stamped image, and adhered that over the sign on the Garden Green layer.

Stampin' Supplies: Festive Phrases stamp set, Basic Gray Archival ink pad & Card Stock, Crushed Curry Card Stock, Garden Green Card Stock, Real Red Card Stock, Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Mini Stampin Dimensionals, SNAIL Adhesive, Stampin' Trimmer.

On the Stepped Up version, I wanted to use Watercolor Paper and an Aqua Painter, but I also wanted the images to be vivid, so I embossed the elf before watercoloring. That helped keep my color in the lines. To do that, I rubbed the Embossing Buddy over the Watercolor Paper, then inked up my image FIRST in a VersaMark ink pad, and then inked it up in the Basic Gray Archival ink pad. Then I poured the Clear Embossing Powder onto it quickly, and poured off the excess. The Watercolor Paper likes to hold onto the powder, even with using the Embossing Buddy, so I took a *dry* Aqua Painter and brushed off the rest of the excess. After that, I heat set the powder with the Heat Tool.

You can see in the closeup below how the color stays in the lines when you emboss, and the embossing is more functional than decorative. You can barely tell it's been embossed, which is fine with me...I didn't really want the outline to be shiny. I dabbed my Aqua Painter on a paper towel before picking up any reinker, so the colors would be very vivid. On the sign, I used more water from the Aqua Painter when I picked up the Marina Mist Reinker than I used with the other ones, because I wanted a more washed look.

Stampin' Supplies: Festive Phrases stamp set, Basic Gray Archival ink pad & Card Stock, VersaMark ink pad, Embossing Buddy, Clear Embossing Powder, Heat Tool, Garden Green reinker, Real Red reinker, Crushed Curry reinker, Marina Mist reinker, Aqua Painter, Watercolor Paper, Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper, Stitched Framelits Dies, Layered Oval Dies, Mini Stampin Dimensionals, SNAIL Adhesive, Stampin' Trimmer.

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop - Back in Plaid

This month is our EIGHTH #APaperPumpkinThing Blog Hop. Our kit this month is called Back in Plaid, as it was the second kit in the Season of Style series, with a plaid theme. It came with supplies to make 10 adorable cloth stockings into little gift bags. Once again, I tried to stick closely to the Paper Pumpkin kit supplies, and all I added was some Pool Party card stock, and a couple of gold Metallic Snowflakes.

As a quick comparison, you can see my projects from last month's kit, Pining for Plaid, in the picture below. I added Soft Sky Classic Weave Ribbon to those projects...I just love BLUE, what can I say??

Click Image to Go to Last Month's Paper Pumpkin Post

Going back to this month's projects, below is a closer look at the card by itself. I used the stamp set that came with the kit, for the greeting and the snowflakes in the background. I stamped the greeting at full strength with the mini Dapper Denim ink pad that came with the kit, but I stamped off the snowflakes once before stamping them on the card, so they'd be just a little bit lighter.

Again, I used the stamp set from the kit to decorate the stocking and the tag below. Both are stamped in full strength, the stocking images just look a little bit lighter because they are stamped on fabric. I cut off the black and white plaid cuff from the stocking, and tucked some of the tissue paper that comes in the Paper Pumpkin kit box, down into the stocking. Then I turned over the edge, to look like a cuff..

I used my Paper Snips to trim some of the excess photopolymer away from the edges of the snowflake image, as you can see below, before stamping the stocking. I was accidentally catching ink on the sides of the stamp, and it would have transferred onto the stocking when stamping because the stocking is an uneven surface, especially around the edges/seams.

Stampin' Supplies: November 2017 Back in Plaid Paper Pumpkin Kit, Pool Party Card Stock, Metallic Foil Snowflakes (gold), Stampin' Trimmer (for trimming and scoring), Paper Snips, SNAIL Adhesive, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals (to adhere the tags to the snowflakes).

The Back in Plaid kit will not be offered later in refills, it will only be offered as a full kit, and it is not slated to be available for several weeks yet. However, you can still grab other goodies the on the PAST KITS page in my Online Store. There are some full Kits, but many are Refills which include the consumables only, meaning everything but the stamp set & ink pad. By the way, you're gonna have to be a Paper Pumpkin subscriber to buy whatever's available, so go ahead and sign up HERE to get your email address in the system first!

Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop - Anything But Cards

Welcome to the 15th Edition of the
Global Stamping Friends Blog Hop! You'll see projects from stampers from around the world--I'm in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This month our theme is a Anything But Cards!!! I chose to work with the Merry Café stamp set, and the coordinating Coffee Cups Framelits, to make a simple holder for a Spiced Apple Cider packet. It's one of those "just add hot water" powders, so it's the perfect pick-me-up for a crisp Fall day.

The holder opens and closes like a matchbook, except the orientation is upside down...the part you tuck under is at the top, and the fold is at the bottom.

The little corrugated cup holder piece (which was cut using the Coffee Cups Framelits) has a slight glimmer to it. I ran the Clear Wink of Stella brush down through every groove. It's hard to catch the subtlety in the photo, but it gives the piece a bit more depth in real life.

I took the colors for my project directly from the Spiced Apple Cider packet, and they just happened to coordinate with our Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper colors, so I used a little piece across the top! (I used a trick with the top of the Best Badge Punch to get the scallop on the edge.) The coordinating colors of ink and cardstock I used are Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla.

So, this picture shows the basic layout and mechanics of the holder, without any design elements covering it up. The Spiced Apple Cider packets I used came in a 60-pack box from Costco. If you get any other packages, I'm not sure they'll fit this holder. But for these, I cut my Crushed Curry cardstock to 3-3/4" x 9-1/8" to start. Then I scored at 5/8", at 5", and at 5-1/8".

As you can see in the above picture, the packet is held in by one staple. You could put two staples in if you want, but it just makes the packet harder to get out, AND if you don't line up your staples exactly, the front might tuck in at an angle. Notice that the staple is no more than halfway down the folded top flap. You want that staple high enough to hold the packet where it's sealed, and not so low that it keeps the flap from tucking under. If you put the decorative paper over the staple like I did on mine, it actually also kind of helps to hold the flap closed.

Stampin' Supplies: Merry Café stamp set, Coffee Cups Framelits, Crushed Curry cardstock & ink, Cajun Craze cardstock & ink, Early Espresso cardstock, Very Vanilla THICK cardstock, Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper, Very Vanilla Solid Baker's Twine, Fast Fuse, Stampin' Dimensionals, Stampin' Trimmer, Best Badge Punch, stapler.
