Halloween Beware Banner

I mentioned previously that I have been experiencing some challenges in posting to my blog. One of the biggest ones right now is a problem with my eyes, or at least one of them. It twitches and blurs to a maniacal degree when I get on the computer, even with strain and glare preventative glasses. But I wanted to make some banners for my college kids' dorm rooms, so I braved it out yesterday. You get to reap the benefits (without the eye twitch consequences) with this free downloadable PDF:

Click Image to see it Larger

The PDF download is 6 pages, one letter/flag on each page. There's lots of detail on each page, please view the PDF to see it clearly. (the PDF also includes a list of digital supplies used, in case you see something you love and have to have!) Some of the digital images bleed over the edges of the flag, just cut out along the grey fishtail pennant shape. I punched small holes in the corner of each and tied the letters together with square knots, using Linen Thread. I did a simple wrap-around knot at each end, leaving long tails to make it easy to tie for hanging.

If you want a bigger banner that says "happy halloween", without anything even remotely creepy on it, check out my up-up-upline's blog post for the free printable banner that inspired mine.

30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge: Day 11

Welcome to Day 11 of my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge! Yes, it may be Thanksgiving before I get all my cards done and sent out, but that's okay with me. Sometimes life throws you curves, or you get hit with a foul ball, and you just have to step back and recover before you can get back in the game :-) I actually created this card over a week ago, but haven't been able to get it posted until today.

The PDF download has two identical cards on an 8-1/2"x11" sheet, and does not have my watermark on the card images. Just print out the PDF at 100%, then cut the sheet in half. Fold each half over, and you'll have two foldover cards :-)

To create this super-simple, neutral card, I took advantage (once again) of a predesigned template in My Digital Studio. The basic card template came with the Celebrate Any Day Greeting Card Templates digital download, I simply traded out the Congrats greeting for the Thank You greeting, which was included in the download.

If you need envelopes to fit half-sheet foldover cards, I recommend one of the following:
Whisper White Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Very Vanilla Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Crumb Cake Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50

Would you like to join me in sending out Thank You cards? Let me know by commenting on my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge post, and on top of the warm fuzzy feeling you'll get, you may win a special prize!

Falling Behind!

Okay, so I'm about a week behind with my life right now. If this is TMI, I apologize, but it at least gives you an indication of what's going on "behind the scenes". Because the Army basically screwed up my jaw when they removed my wisdom teeth years and years ago, I had to get a tooth extraction and bone grafts, which happened in April (I think). Then the next step was a dental implant in July, which was not long after getting back in our home after the Waldo Canyon Fire, so I think I was stressed out, and I got a weird strep rash after the procedure. Now, if you don't know, strep after dental work is a bad thing, as it can get into your heart muscle super fast, and give you a major heart attack. So, when I couldn't sleep due to chest pain, I was freaking out. Then I got antibiotics and slowly felt better.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, and the site of my implant starts acting weird, getting sore and swollen, then going down and making me think it's fine, and then getting worse again. I'll spare you the truly disgusting details, but it was apparently infected. It didn't hurt much, just kind of sore and annoying, but it was really sapping my energy. I did manage to get one card done, a quick birthday card for my sweetie's teenage daughter. She likes Hot Topic, so I figured this would fit the genre. I felt so cruddy, it was hard to even get the card done, much less get a good shot of it, but I tried:

Trying to figure out the dental issue was compounded as my dentist was out of town til October 1st, but I finally managed to get some antibiotics by the 3rd. On the 4th, I went in and the dentist had to open it back up and scrape away some bad tissue (gross and ouch), and now we have to let it heal again. Bad timing on the slice & dice, because I was leaving for Parents' Weekend at the kids' college the next morning. To top it all off, our landlord finally decided to get his house painted this same week, so I was letting the painters in and out for the bathroom (so they wouldn't just pee in the bushes), and rounding up odds and ends they needed/wanted to make the job go more smoothly, for a couple days before my dental visit.

Long story short, I was lucky to have grabbed clean underwear for each day of the trip, much less gotten anything else done. I was so bummed, because I had visions of making a batch of my famously yummy chocolate chip cookies for the kids, and trying this new recipe for Pumpkin & Cream Cheese Whoopie Pies, which I'm sure would have made my kids the most popular in their dorms! Oh well, time for the good ol' bake-then-freeze-and-mail trick.

Blake needed to do some computer work on the way there, and on the way back, so I got to drive most of those 12 hours. Then, we drove the kids around to a couple of places out of town, since they don't have cars and aren't as likely to get to see those sites. So, yesterday I was exhausted and really felt like I could hardly move. I think it was more than just the trip, because the dental stuff seemed to be flaring up with infection again. I finally got more antibiotics at the end of the day yesterday, and the doctor told me to take like 4 of them as soon as I got them, and it seems like things are better this morning--so far. But, that kind of gives you an explanation of why I sort of dropped off the map.

I hope to be able to pick back up with my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge tomorrow. Today is going to have to be dedicated to getting stuff put away and cleaned up from the trip, and getting caught up from the last week (plus) of (not-so-pleasant) distractions! Plus, I have some super cute baby shower stuff I need to finish up...but I can't share that with you until after Saturday. Thanks for hanging in there with me!!!

Recycle Note for Cards

I thought I'd post this on my blog since have had several people over the years ask for the note that I use for creating cards you can recycle. The gist of it is that when you create a card (especially a super cool one), you'd love for the person who received it, to be able to pay it forward. I created a small note that fits inside even small 3x3 cards. I attach it with temporary adhesive, in case someone eventually wants to take out the note and end the recycle cycle.
These notes print out on an 8-1/2x11 sheet, and I just use copy paper. You can print them out in color for the nifty recycling green look, or print in grayscale. To cut them out, trim 1/2" off the top, bottom, and each side of the printed page. Then cut each out at 2-1/2" square.

Honestly, I have been writing my messages for my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge right on the card, because I want it to be personal, and especially for one person. But you could use these notes on your 'thank you' cards if you'd like :-)

NEW! Purchase Select SINGLE Stamps!

Okay, apparently Stampin' Up! is watching the stamp sets I am using, or something, because they just announced a super-cool pilot program, where you can purchase single stamps from select stamp sets. And, each stamp set has 'thank you' images...two of which I happened to use on cards I posted just TODAY. The single stamps are available from the following stamp sets: Word Play, Perfectly Penned, and Seasonal Sayings.

A few caveats: the stamps are only available in clear-mount style. They will not be sold with acrylic blocks, you will need to buy blocks separately, if you don't already have them. The flyers list the suggested Stampin' Up! clear block size for each single stamp. Each single stamp will be packaged in a cello bag instead of the usual plastic cases (see picture above for packaging sample). There is no limit to how many single stamps you can purchase, and no minimum purchase requirement. My PDF flyers show images of all the single stamps, as well as the Item Numbers you must use for ordering. For your convenience, I have created an easy order link for each stamp. Simply click on the item number and it will take you to that stamp in my store. These select single stamps will be available for purchase through January 2, 2013.

This is just PERFECT for you to join me in my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge. You can grab a couple packages of Note Cards & Envelopes, stamp a simple 'thanks' on the card, and just send it out. Embossing makes simple and quick cards look uber elegant in a jiffy--try a VersaMark ink pad with our new Early Espresso Embossing Powder!

30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge: Day 10

Welcome to Day 10 of my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge! I've made a quick card to catch me up to today. This one is based on a physical card I made a few months ago. I hope you don't mind these short & quick posts, I'm trying to focus on just getting these cards done and mailed out for now.

The PDF download has two identical cards on an 8-1/2"x11" sheet, and does not have my watermark on the card images. Just print out the PDF at 100%, then cut the sheet in half. Fold each half over, and you'll have two foldover cards :-)

The physical version was created with the From My Heart stamp set, but I haven't yet bought the digital version of that set...that's why the card above was made with the Perfectly Penned digital stamp brush set, instead:

If you need envelopes to fit half-sheet foldover cards, I recommend one of the following:
Whisper White Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Very Vanilla Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Crumb Cake Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50

30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge: Day 9

Welcome to Day 9 of my 30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge! This is actually my card for yesterday. I wore myself out cleaning and organizing again, and didn't get a card made. (It was that kind of detail stuff that takes hours, and that no one ever notices but you, but it will drive you crazy til you get it done. *sigh*) For this card, I created the physical one first, then had to set about trying to figure out how to recreate it in My Digital Studio. After creating the background digitally, I realized I wanted it layered, so I saved the whole thing as a photo and brought it back in that way. I really like this design because it's neutral, but also because it looks like you are giving someone a blue ribbon prize :-)

The PDF download has two identical cards on an 8-1/2"x11" sheet, and does not have my watermark on the card images. Just print out the PDF at 100%, then cut the sheet in half. Fold each half over, and you'll have two foldover cards :-)
Here is the physical version, it's a little more rough-textured with all the Basic Gray sponging. I made score lines across the card stock with the Simply Scored Diagonal Board, then folded it over and sponged lightly on the edge of each score line. I didn't bother to reink my Marina Mist ink pad for the background images, because I sort of wanted a little of that break through of white:

If you need envelopes to fit half-sheet foldover cards, I recommend one of the following:
Whisper White Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Very Vanilla Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
Crumb Cake Medium Envelopes (40 env) for $6.50
